The concept of the American shopping mall has slowly made its way into the Barcelona lifestyle, everything you’re looking for can be found under the same  roof plus parking space, restaurants and other amenities. There are not too many shopping malls in Barcelona, but each one has its own particular style. L’Illa Diagonal is one of the most prestigious in the city.

Stretching along the elegant Diagonal Avenue on Les Corts District, this shopping center could be described as a “skyscraper lying down”, and was one of the first to open in Barcelona in the early nineties. L’Illa, catalan for island, has an impressive continuous 350 meter facade and it was inspired on New York highrises, like The Rockefeller Center.

It features large department stores, Spanish and International fashion boutiques, a park, a sports center, two four star hotels, a convention center, several restaurants and coffee houses.

If you’re a gastronomy fan, one place you must check out is “El Rebost de L’Illa”. Located on the underground level, it’s a singular food market that offers delicatessen, fresh local and exotic products as well as food tasting. Products like fine wine, fish, chocolates, high quality Spanish ham, and Mexican, Italian and Japanese deli shops, make a complete gastronomical offer.
