The church is famous for being the background setting of the best selling book “La Catedral del Mar” (Cathedral of the Sea) by Ildefonso Falcones.
Set in the blooming 14th century Barcelona, the story develops while the church is being constructed.

Considered the main church of El Born neighborhood, the construction started in 1329 with the help and contributions of local residents. In spite of its heavy exterior, the inside it’s beautifully lit and generous in space.
It’s well recommended to make a visit at sunset, when the sun hits on the stained-glass windows the effect it’s quite gorgeous. Certainly, is one of the medieval buildings in Barcelona that deserves a visit.
